How to set-up a new RIO 3 VME CPU (8064WL) for the FESA environment?

  • For the beam diagnsotics group we have chosen following naming convention: sddsc00x.acc.gsi.de where sd is strahldiagnose, dsc is device stub controller (like at CERN) and x the alternating number of devices.
  • The CPU should be installed within the ACC network.
  • The RIO 3 800MHz has another bootfile then the 500MHz Version.
  • Look at the attached text files for the NVRAM settings to set the right parameters, pathes etc. and look to the text file of a valid boot sequence to compare and understand the process.
  • The bootfile for RIO3 (800 MHz), 8064WL is called 626.gz in /tftpboot/rio/ on the fsl00b.acc.gsi.de server.
  • Make sure, that device is well inserted in the DHCP service with additional info added (copy the sddsc001 entry, Vincelli).
  • Create following directories:
    • /data/dsc/mcr/[newname]/bin
    • /data/dsc/mcr/[newname]/data
    • /data/dsc/mcr/[newname]/etc
    • /data/dsc/mcr/[newname]/tmp (chmod 777 for tmp)

  • Problems occured when the diag_pmc1 and diag_pmc2 flags were not checked (not bootpc). Why is unclear.
