Alarm System
Purpose of the System
The Alarm System is a software system to enable operators to identify and locate conditions of hardware and software components which indicate malfunctioning or nearby malfunctioning (e.g. an overheated magnet), especially those error conditions which cannot be automatically resolved.
An alarm is an abstraction of such an undesired state of some part of the facility which is brought to the operation layer and can be processed by a human operator. Thus an alarm itself is stateful, i.e. active or inactive when the according undesired state is present or not. It has autonomous information like source identification, time stamp, error description, and non-inherent configurable information like whether the alarm must be acknowledged by an operator, under which condition it may be masked, what action is to be performed by the operator, how to reduce alarm cascades, etc.
First ideas which critical conditions in front-end systems may be signaled by alarms are listed
here.
The Alarm System is presently implemented as Slovenian in-kind contribution to the FAIR project. Coordination is with CSCO.
Within the controls group the Archving Project is in charge of the SV group.
