This little tutorial helps to speed up the daily use of the Oracle program SQL Developer.

The plan is to install this program localy (without local admin) on your pc and open a tunnel to the database cluster.
  1. Dowload SQL Developer or get it from the cluster /common/home/bel/semuelle/sqldeveloper (for a better place, feel free to send me a better hint)
  2. Unrar the archive file with e.g winrar -> softwarecenter
  3. Start ant look at the first start goto Extra(tools) -> Voreinstellung(preferences) -> Datanbank(database) -> Erweitert(advanced) and put the folder into the tnsnames-folder (last point). The Folder is in the extrakt folder where the tnsnames.ora file is.
  4. Create a tunnel to the database cluster with "C:\Program Files (x86)\Putty\PLINK.EXE" -N -L 1525:dbl005:1521 YOUR_CLUSTER_USERNAME@asl730.acc.gsi.de" it will be helpfully when you create a shortcut
  5. Start the tunnel and add a new connection like the same procedure in the cluster
